Toddler Suns Teachers

Sophie Lake

Sophie was born and raised in England and moved to Utah in 2008, joining the MCS staff in 2009. Sophie has a Bachelors Degree in Elementary/Early Childhood Eductaion, which she achieved before moving to Utah. She also  completed her Institute for Guided Studies Infant/Toddler certification in 2011. Although the majority of her time has spent working with the lovely Toddlers, Sophie also has had the opportunity to teach in our Elementary program. She loves working with children of all ages, but the Toddlers have her heart. Sophie married her husband Tony in 2011. In 2015, Sophie's son Frankie was born, and joined the Toddler Community at 5 months old. It has been a joy to watch him flourish in the environment. Running is a great hobby of hers and completing her first marathon in 2010 was a huge achievement. Sophie loves working with the Toddlers and Montessori Community School is a huge part of her life. A fun fact about Sophie is that her favorite animal is a moose and by moving to Utah she got to fulfill her dream of seeing one in the wild!

Mandy Wilson

Assistant Teacher

Mandy has just recently joined us here at MCS and is from Alpine, UT. She loves working with and teaching children because they always make her happy. Mandy is currently an Elementary Education major at the University of Utah and loves that the Montessori method teaches children to do things on their own and to be independent. Mandy lives with her husband who is attending dental school at the University of Utah, and their little dog named Copernicus.

Gillian Hanseen

Assistant Teacher

Gillian was born and raised here in Utah. She loves being outdoors, hiking, camping, and enjoying the beautiful scenery and mountains that this place has to offer. She also loves film, music, reading, listening to podcasts, and spending time with her family and friends! Gillian is so happy to be welcomed to MCS and was immediately drawn in by the loving and open atmosphere here. This being her first time working at a Montessori school, she’s excited to learn alongside these kids. Something she loves about the Montessori environment is that the activities and approach to learning is not a "one size fits all", but truly helps each child's growth with their own individual needs. A little known fact about Gillian is that she spent a few months living in Romania and volunteering at an orphanage there - it was the best experience ever!
