Acceptable Use Policy

Montessori Community School of Salt Lake City

Rev. 6/30/2023

Page  of

Internet access is available to qualifying students, teachers, staff and administrators of the Montessori Community School (MCS). Access to computers and people all over the world brings the availability of material that may not be of educational value into our Montessori school setting. We have taken available precautions to restrict access to controversial materials, but it is impossible to control all materials. While at school, student online activity will be monitored as closely as possible by the faculty. Outside of school, families must bear the responsibility for such guidance.

In deciding to become a participant in this global network, we must remember that we are members of an electronic community. As such, we are called upon to conduct ourselves as we do within our physical community here at MCS. We are to treat ourselves and those with whom we will come in contact with respect. We all have the right to expect efficient, legal, moral, and ethical conduct of those who choose to use online resources. Deliberate defamation of others is not acceptable. The school may notify parents or impose consequences for online behavior, even if it takes place outside of school, that defames other persons, the school, or that endangers the student himself/herself.

MCS will provide staff and students with an email address, and the expectation is that it will be used for legitimate educational and research activity. Staff and students are expected to use email in a responsible manner. The sending or receiving of messages which contain any material that is of a sexist, racist, unethical, illegal, or that is likely to cause offense should not take place.

The following guidelines are provided so that students aware of the responsibility they acquire when using Montessori Community School’s Internet and Email services.

Acceptable Use

Consider the file size of an attachment. Files exceeding 20 megabytes in size are generally considered to be excessively large and you should consider using other methods to transfer such files. Do not download or open file attachments unless you are certain of both their content and origin. File attachments may contain viruses that may cause loss of data or damage to the school network.
Web email is provided for use of Montessori Community School staff and students only. Access by any other person is not allowed. Users are reminded to never reveal their password to anyone.

Services

MCS makes no warranties of any kind, whether expressed or implied, for the service it is providing. The school will not be responsible for any damages you suffer while on this system. These damages include, but are not limited to:

Though the school has made efforts to filter content, use of any information obtained via online services or the Internet is at your own risk. The school specifically denies any responsibility for the accuracy or quality of information obtained through its online services.

Privileges

Internet and email access is a privilege, not a right. Individual users of the Montessori Community School account are responsible for their behavior and communications while online. It is expected that users will comply with all school standards. Storage areas, including individual disks and printout may be treated like school lockers. MCS administration and faculty may review files, printouts, and communications at any time to ensure that students are using the system responsibly. Users should not expect that any files will be private.

Sanctions

Inappropriate use of any online resources as defined in this agreement will result in the loss of all online privileges, disciplinary actions as defined elsewhere in the Student/Parent Handbook and/or referral to legal authorities. Any administrator or faculty member may request that a user’s privilege be revoked.

I accept the terms above and agree to follow them while using the MCS computers and email network.
